Domestic abuse and sexual violence have been identified as a priority and of concern by Torbay's Health and Wellbeing Board, Community Safety Partnership’s Stronger Board, Safeguarding Adults Board and Torbay Safeguarding Children Board. All local agencies have a vital part to play in supporting victims, bringing perpetrators to account and raising awareness.
Torbay experiences higher than average volumes of domestic abuse than other areas with a similar profile. It is estimated that in 2016 / 17 there were 2597 female victims of domestic abuse and 1437 male victims in Torbay, and local analysis shows that between 30% and 40% of Children’s Social Care activity is related to domestic abuse. Data recorded by Torbay Domestic Abuse Service shows increasing numbers of victims presenting with complex needs including drug and alcohol misuse, mental ill health, financial difficulties and experiencing social isolation.

Outcome focused domestic abuse service for high and medium risk victims, survivors and members of their household including children. The service will enable people to make informed choices about their safety, health, housing and other identified individual needs. Support is confidential and non-judgemental, regardless of whether people wish to leave a relationship, stay or have left.

The Oak Centre
Sexual assault referral centre, offering non-judgemental assistance and support for men and women and children of any age who have experienced rape and/or sexual assault. The Oak Centre works closely with Devon and Cornwall Police to support clients who have reported to the police, but clients who are over 18 can refer themselves to the service without involving the police. Alternatively, other professionals can refer clients to the service.
