How much time will it take?

To become a Champion you need to complete two full days of training. Once you have become a Champion, there are network meetings throughout the year in locations across Oxfordshire. Champions are expected to attend at least one of these sessions, but are of course welcome to attend all of them. Your sign posting and support work will happen face-to-face in your place of work.

What qualifications do I need?

No qualifications needed – anyone can do it!

What if I don’t know what to say or how to help?

Champions are not expected to take on ‘case-work’ or be an expert on Domestic Abuse. Instead you will be there to listen carefully and then help the child or parent find the right person to help them. You will have support from other Champions and your manager. Think of yourself as the ‘First Aider’ who arrives when needed, calms, assesses and refers your client for more specialist support it its needed.
