On-line Domestic Abuse Training

This 30 minutes e-learning package introduces the learner to domestic abuse including looking at services that are available to support victims.  This training is aimed at all front-line professionals.

Domestic Abuse Awareness

A 1 day course serving as an introduction to Domestic Abuse increasing awareness within this field. A course particularly relevant for those new to the Domestic Abuse sector and/or for professionals who may not be from the Domestic Abuse sector but who may be working/volunteering with children/young people and/or their families who could be affected by Domestic Abuse.

By the end of the course participants will be aware of:

  • Identify the spectrum of domestic abuse and its impact on others
  • To identify and link appropriate support/intervention services
  • To know how to undertake a domestic abuse risk assessment
  • To understand core elements of safety planning with victims/children/young people
  • Understanding information sharing responsibilities

Domestic Abuse and Children

A 1 day course looking at the effects of Domestic Abuse on Children, including awareness on how to recognise and manage safeguarding concerns. This course would also be relevant for those professionals working with children who are or are becoming Champions and need more awareness on Domestic Abuse and Children.

By the end of this training you will:

  • identify the spectrum of domestic abuse and its impact on others
  • identify and link appropriate support/intervention services
  • know how to undertake a domestic abuse risk indicator matrix
  • understand core element of safety planning with victims/children/young people
  • understanding information sharing responsibilities

Domestic Abuse Stalking Harassment and Honour Based Violence (DASH)Risk Assessment training

DASH Risk Assessment training is now available to all Professionals. This is a half day training event starting at 09:30 and finishing at 12:30. Embrace

Embrace is the Alcohol Concern children, families and domestic abuse project helping to build capacity in non-statutory
alcohol services to enable them to work more effectively with families where there are alcohol problems and to
address domestic violence and abuse.

From January 2010, Embrace will be running a series of one-day training sessions which aim to equip alcohol services with the basics they need to introduce family and domestic abuse issues into their mainstream work. The training will accord with the DANOS competencies framework and an Alcohol Concern Certificate of Attendance will be provided for all attendees. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis so it is advisable to book early.

Bounce Back for Kids

BB4K’s is a therapeutic group for children from 6 – 10 years of age, who have experienced living within a family where Domestic Abuse has occurred. This often leads to behavioural issues and or physical, emotional and academic delay in the children.

Domestic Abuse Champions Training

The Domestic Abuse Champions training is managed via the Oxfordshire Domestic Abuse Strategy group. It is considered a level three training course and is training for a role not just domestic abuse awareness It is appropriate to have one or two Domestic Abuse Champions per team. Initially Champions will receive a free two day Domestic Abuse Champions Level One training event which covers area outline below and then free ongoing training related to domestic abuse. The Champions will then receive ongoing skills development training that takes place within the network meetings. We also offer additional training days should the Champions want further training.

Online course - It Won't Happen to Me: Substance Abuse-Related Violence Against Women

For anyone concerned about the issues This online course is for people who have any connection to or interest in the issues of substance abuse or violence against women. It could be a family member, such as a spouse, parent, child or cousin, a friend or neighbour of an abused or addicted woman or a victim themselves.

The course will look at violence against women from high school age and older, including rape, sexual assault, dating violence, and domestic violence. It will show the ways in which alcohol or drug abuse is related to various types of violence. Giving information, tools, and resources to assist you in improving your life or the life of someone you care about.

Online training - Forced Marriage e-learning tool launched

The Forced Marriage Unit has developed an e-learning tool to support professionals dealing with forced marriage cases. The tool has been designed to complement the multi-agency practice guidelines that FCO launched last summer. The e-learning tool was launched on 4 June and you can access the Moodle site where the training is housed at www.fmelearning.co.uk.

Online course - Silence Hurts – Alcohol Abuse and Violence Against Women - a course for professionals

This online course is for professionals. It provides social workers, physicians, nurses, counsellors, and health educators with detailed information about alcohol abuse and several forms of violence against women that can occur. The course describes these "hidden problems" and identifies risk factors, screening and assessment tools, prevention and intervention strategies, treatment, tools for clients, and legal issues.

For clients who are in crisis and need help immediately, lists of hotlines and coalitions are provided in the resources section for your use. There are also many links within the text to other agencies and research. All of the assessment and diagnostic tools featured can be printed and are also found in Supplements.
